FERAL MEMORIES

Sculpture (20cmx9cm) Plaster, Glove, Soil (2024)

Work exhibited at FULLY, TACTFULLY, Venezia

A body that, over time, has been shaped, limited, and redefined by external forces. The work stems from the idea of a body within the body, two presences sharing the same shell. This concept can be linked to Cartesian dualism, which distinguishes between res cogitans (mind or spirit) and res extensa (physical body). In this piece, the res cogitans is understood through memory: a feral, primitive memory, arising directly from instinct.

The sculpture presents a hand made of soil, a reminder of our wild nature. The soil, as origin, contrasts with the glove that imprisons it: control, restriction, and civilization. This hand, still holding onto its oldest memories, challenges the form that attempts to contain it, evoking the constant tension between the wild and the domesticated the war of contractions.

The untamed body against the domesticated body, the struggle between instinct and rule, between nature and dogma. The glove, as a protective layer that simultaneously shapes and limits, spotlights the historical process through which technique has managed to subdue almost entirely what was once pure instinct.
