CASTRO LOBATO
(Mexico City, 2003; lives and works in between Venice, Italy and Paris, France)
Castro Lobato is a multimedia artist whose practice unfolds around the act of human domestication. His work explores the construction of identity as a politicized and socialized territory—a malleable and manipulable matter that responds to power structures and processes of normalization. In this context, the body is revealed as a performative space, where the repetition of acts builds an appearance of normality that sustains itself through constant iteration.
Through moving images, sculptures, and temporary installations, Lobato investigates the systems and educational processes that shape traditions and knowledge, generating margins where categories of bodies and subjectivities are configured. In his work, the need to reclaim the wild emerges as an act of subversion and resistance—a means of escape from the narratives of domestication imposed by social norms. In this sense, the wild arises in the interstice between belonging and exclusion, as a possibility for bodily emancipation and vindication.
